in what is nowaday called Piazza della Repubblica after the demolition
of the Jewish Ghetto and the Mercato Vecchio. It was designed and
built by Giorgio Vasari to substitute for the original old fish market
that was located on the Ponte Vecchio until 1565, when the construction
of Vasari's corridor began. The structure, simple and linear, is made
up of eighteen Doric columns. It is decorated with terracotta reliefs
that depict different species of fish. Borgo Allegri links Piazza
dei Ciompi to Santa Croce Church. APARTMENT: The flat has been restored and offers 2 bedrooms with a kingsize bed and 2 bathrooms with bath.
